What is IBPS?

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the premier, autonomous, and research-based institute that offers Human Resources recruitment services for the Banking Industry. The IBPS works under the governance of RBI, Finance Ministry, and National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) with representatives from Public Sector Banks, Insurance Companies and academicians providing valuable inputs. IBPS offers recruitment services including testing, selecting, assessing, and managing of banking personnel.

Eligibility for IBPS Exam:

The basic eligibility requirement for IBPS bank exams is a Bachelor’s degree. The candidates for various job designations are required to display computer proficiency and internet skills with certificate courses as proof. Higher qualifications with recognised professional PG degrees, accredited certifications, and council memberships are required for specialist rank officers. The specializations include Law, Management, IT, Agriculture, Accounting, and Translation (Rajbhasha Adhikari), etc.

Examination process

IBPS Exam includes two levels Common Written Exam (CWE) & Interview. Qualified participants in CWE will be eligible for Interview. IBPS Clerk & PO exam have Preliminary and Mains exam those candidates qualify in Pre exam they will be eligible for mains exam and then Interview.

IBPS SO Exam:

Specialist officers in Scale I provide junior grade management services in IT, Agriculture, HR and Personnel, Law, Marketing, etc., Scale II officers in the above mentioned specializations also require relevant and minimum experience along with higher certifications and memberships as specified. Qualifications include MBA, full time PG, CA, ICWA, CFA, PGDBM, etc., Requisite experience of relevance ranges from 2 to 3 years in the corresponding field.

IBPS PO Exam:

Graduates can apply for this exam and they will be tested in two phases – preliminary and main exam. The prelims will be for 100 marks covering three sections – English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. Aspirants who qualify in prelims have to appear for the main examination for 200 marks with 5 topics – English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability, Computer Knowledge, and General Awareness of Banking.  Aspirants who clear IBPS PO interviews are inducted as Assistant Managers on probation for 1 to 2 years.

IBPS CLERK Exam:

Graduates aspirants are tested in a two tier exam including the preliminaries and mains. Preliminary exam tests the numerical, English, and reasoning abilities while mains also test the computer knowledge, general banking awareness, and quantitative aptitude. Negative marking is used during the evaluation process.

IBPS RRB Exam:

IBPS RRB exam is used to recruit Group A Officers – Scale 1, 2, 3 and Group B – Multipurpose Office Assistants.  Aspirants with corresponding degrees and requisite experience appear for the online exam in English or Hindi language. IBPS RRB bank exam tests Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Computer Knowledge, General Awareness, Data Interpretation, and financial awareness for the different job positions.

Common Interview

Aspirants who qualify in the online examination have to participate in a Common Interview subsequently. This interview is coordinated by IBPS and is conducted by participating banks, nodal banks of RRB, etc., in different states and union territories. Clerical grade cadre are recruited without common interview starting from 2016.

Final Selection

Ranking order in the merit list is used for final selection. The list for provisional allotment is prepared only after exams and interview are completed and the candidates have to wait with patience. Selection is done on the basis of merit, bank’s requirements, and reservation policy and the decisions of IBPS are final and binding.
